Work package 2.1 Energy as a unifying concept for soil systems biology

Energy in the form of carbon, water flow (i.e. gravity), photosynthesis, has the potential to be a unifying concept in systems biology due to its common currency. Current areas for research directly relate to energy flow, e.g. ATP/ADP in microbial communities, and the idea of using energy in this way will be explored as a potential "umbrella" concept within the Programme.
